Fredrik and I decided to go to Mondos last minute on Sunday for a little surfing. We dragged Mallika with us and my mom (no, she doesn't surf). So, we jumped in the clown car (just because is a Honda and we like to carpool) and headed for our surfing spot. We knew it was going to be crowded, but we never imagined this. We got off the freeway and started our 3 mile drive to the beach. There was a spot, and I told Fredrik, park here, and I realized that we were not yet close the place we usually park. There was no turning back; it was Sunday, and the freeway in the other direction was going at the speed of dessert tortoise (I have water turtles and they are pretty fast, so I figured I can make this tortoise analogy) We finally found parking all the way at the end of the line. We also found a place to put our stuff down, in front of the houses! (if you know Mondos, you would know where). . . the water looked perfect, and there was people surfing and swimming in bare bathing suits. The waves were braking all along the beach something we don't usually see, but we decided to go in where we always go. The water was warm, I couldn't believe that I was actually wearing a spring suit . . . it felt kind of chilly at the beginning but afterwards it felt just perfect. . . . I started paddling; I left Mallika behind and kept on going (I knew she was going to be okay) . . . I wanted to go all the way where the waves start braking . . . I kept on paddling; I was getting push back by the white water . . . I kept on going . . . then I decided where I was was a good spot; I was tired (didn't make it all the way in, bummer!) . . . try to catch a couple waves; most of them liar waves . . . I kept on saying to myself even if I don't catch any waves today I had a good paddle exercise . . . and indeed I did . . . I mostly paddle that day. The current was so strong that in a few minutes I was in the other side of the beach which is not Mondos anymore. . . . all and all I had a really good time in the water . . . I even saw a jelly fish and swim as fast as could in the other direction . . . a couple of sting rays cross my mind, remembering the day that Diane got a cut between her toes ( I highly suspect it was sting ray) . . . Summer has come but the waves have stayed at Mondos; I hope it stays that way.
